Yeah that sure is the case when a person in the meteorite community is doing the cutting. ?Tracking that no qiestions asked. ?My concern is when non meteorite enthusiasts are doing the cutting. ?Someone dead focused on getting their vision created who is an artist/maker bery well might not. ? I am not even saying that is the case with this artist. ?Just stating in general i could easily see it happening. ?When it is an art person using a meteorite not a meteorite person using art. I?m with you on the artifacts, fascinating that meteorite iron being early abailable was a source of material pre iron making. As an artist I can appreciate the workmanship and beauty of the skull and wish I had some of the ancient artifacts made from meteoritic materials.?Best Regards, Greg ==================== Greg Hupe The Hupe Collection gmhupe at centurylink.net www.NaturesVault.net (Online Catalog & Reference Site) www.LunarRock.com (Online Planetary Meteorite Site) NaturesVault (Facebook, Pinterest & eBay) http://www.facebook.com/NaturesVault http://pinterest.com/NaturesVault IMCA 3163 ==================== Click here for my current eBay auctions: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZnaturesvault ?From: michael kelly via Meteorite-list Sent: Thursday, September 13, 2018 9:42 PMTo: John Lutzon ; meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] Skull Carved Out of an Iron Meteorite?Guess the real questionis where did the scrap go?? I can admire the craftsmanship.? And i am sure it presents a challenging medium to work.? I can also imagine 15 lbs of srap going into a rubbish bin :( probably more scrapped than i will ever be lucky enough to tuck into my collection.?On Thursday, September 13, 2018, 9:31:33 PM EDT, John Lutzon via Meteorite-list <meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com> wrote: ??Maybe this 3rd post will get posted.....? ?I really need Someone to explain to me why it is totally acceptable for someone to cut/slice and/or bathe in acid every meteorite they can get their hands on (some very rare) and then sell them at a considerable profit and possibly make a living---but to shape it into Any other shape is a shame. I hope I spelled Hypocrisy correctly. ?Hopefully this skull will wind up in a museum and be preserved for hundreds if not thousands of years---long after the average collector's specimens are long gone. ?Love ya Anne, John ______________________________________________ ?Visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/meteoritecentral and the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com https://pairlist3.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list ______________________________________________ Visit our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/meteoritecentral and the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com https://pairlist3.pair.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
