Please try to be polite = when doing so! : )=20 I think it hurts us all when some one uses misleading tactics to sell = meteorites. Why do I think that? I will tell you. Ebay is by far the = best, cheapest and easiest place to get meteorites. Lets say someone = new goes on ebay and sees a 2000g Campo described as "HUGE" and looks = around and there is no Campo larger on ebay at the time, the buyer goes = back to the auction and finds a IMCA link, clicks on it and learns what = a honest bunch of sellers IMCA members are. The new buyer even clicks on = a few links and does not see a Campo that big on any of the sites. The = buyer will feel like he is getting a Huge Campo at a great price. He = goes back to the auction and uses Buy it now. He gets it and is thrilled = with this Huge Campo.=20 He gets the "BUG" and goes back to Ebay to look around. This time he = finds a 94lb Campo, but his campo was huge? So what is a buyer to think? = DON"T TRUST THEM DISHONEST IMCA MEMBERS, that whole bunch are full of = #&%$(# !!!!!=20 Now what, buy from none IMCA members, OK, and it turns out to be slag! = Oh well, this meteorite collecting thing sucks! You can not trust = anyone!=20 I do know, one important part of selling, is you need buyers. If no one = wants to buy meteorites, no one can sell them!!!=20 I live in AZ, and it is still summer here, still in the high 90's, to = hot for GB, so all my meteorite hunting is done on ebay! I am just = telling you all of my hunting adventures. : )=20 All I am trying to get across is that honesty is the best policy. If = you have a 2k Holbrook, tell people it is huge!!! If you have a 2k = campo, say it is nice sized or something, save HUGE for the huge Campos! = Thanks, Tom wondering if I should be the proudest member of the IMCA 6168 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Howard Wu=20 To: Dave Harris ; metlist=20 Sent: Friday, October 10, 2003 11:13 AM Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] eBay policemen? I joined this list in part so I wouldn't be so stupid about faux = meteorites or over priced scams. Fine in principle, but we are not here to police eBay - I think that = "Caveat Emptor" should prevail here. If anyone is naive or stupid enough to = spend thousands of bucks on a so-called 'meteorite' and from a supplier = who doesn t sport the IMCA label then so be it.=20 Like a lot of people, I find the exceptional ripoffs very funny and = I am quite happy to have my attention drawn to it, but on the whole these auctions for faux meteorites are all a bit sad, desperate and not = really funny. Seems to me that every Metlist digest I get now has a "look at this = eBay auction..." gleefully pointing out some stupid ad - Can I suggest = that perhaps one could spend one's time better employed? frustratingly frustrated! dave IMCA #0092 ______________________________________________ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list -------------------------------------------------------------------------= ----- Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
