You said "Because of your Peruvian visit, arguably an "attractive nuisance" in legal terms as you arrived passing out US dollars for "dangerous" rocks in a place with a per capita income less than Haiti, the bulk of the police force of the area is now out of work, and the locals without whatever degree of protection they previously enjoyed. The crater is being guarded 24 hours a day to protect it from the likes of you." Now Kevin, I arrived in Peru, at the site of a new meteorite fall, a crater-forming one at that. I arrived two weeks later than most people as I was slightly busy elsewhere. I paid lots of money for stones. I did not hand out US dollars, I am not sure by what authority or knowledge you pretend to have about how much money I spent or the type of bills I used to pay for it. Many people were there buying before me, I guess their intentions were better than mine, they paid nothing, they took the pieces or they paid a pittence, I paid a lot of money, funny how poor people getting more money is always turned into me taking advantage of them. According to you, thy are better off just giving them away........... As far as the local police force being out of work, I would say that lends more to their corruption and lawbreaking than my being there. Kevin, that is simply pathetic. That is like saying that a thief has the right to steal the money because it is there. So according to you, the fact that an American with money showed up meant that the police suddenly needed to rob him? The police are still there (somehow I doubt that the police station is shuttered, the jail padlocked and closed), and the crater is guarded because they Peruvians have no clue what to do with it. The locals want to dig up the meteorite that fell on their land, because I told them it was being destroyed, and if you can argue with that, then so be it, the whole list would likely want to see an argument for leaving the largest meteorite to fall in decades under water. you said "Of course, Desaguaderos is a "craphole, the definition that would come up first." The scientists involved? "The people from the University of Peru are clueless." Are you campaigning to become the next "anti-Christ"? You have my vote." Kevin, Desaguadero is litterally filled with crap, figuratively and really. There are human/pig/donkey feces in ever part of town, especially outside the hotels and the river is an open sewer. Do disrespect, but facts is facts my friend. The people from the university ARE clueless about meteorites! That is what I said, an again, it is the truth. They told the locals they are poisonous, that the land is contaminated, that the meteorite needs to stay in teh crater so that tourists can pay to see it etc. Care to defend those things? I am not sure if any scientist on here would defend leaving the meteorite under water while humans urinate in it. But hey, what would I know, I am a greedy evil meteorite dealer right? You said "So according to you, there are 4,000 to 5,000 kilos in the ground and perhaps thirty kilos recovered. But it is all "crumbs and dust", "lost and rusty". ATTENTION SHOPPERS! Only Tiger Man can sell you, "by the way", authenticated pristine specimens" I say, Hey Keven, take it for what you want, but you are damned right. Let's see, large amount of chondrite, very friable material, high-metal, pourous, and highly fractured, SITTING THREE FRIGGING WEEKS UNDER PISS WATER! YES, it will be ROTTED, RUSTED, CONTAMINATED, DAMAGED, DESTROYED, and LOST! Get the hint, it is not my greed that makes me write these things. IT IS SIMPLE UNDISPUTABLE TRUTH, that makes me write them. You say "Mike, your cost for the 300 grams you say you collected was $1,000 according to you. Your RT plane ticket from Cali, Columbia was less than $600 as per Expedia.com, your hotel room $4/night ("We overpaid.."), taxi from the border was $40. "Gifts" to the police was $300 ($100 each). Food and beer is almost nothing. Your estimated cost per gram is about $7. Let me not forget the price you paid for the rights to the photo of the meteorite contrail, "I gave him enough to buy a new camera and take 1000 photos." So we're at $7.25/gm. You are selling this for $100/gm, right? 300gms. times $100 = $30,000. Is your profit about $28,000 for less than a weeks "work"? So you expect a $28K profit AND a vacation tax write-off of $2K? You go, capitalism!" AYE CARAMBA, why would you think I flew form Cali to La Paz? It would have been nice, but jungle to high mountains require different clothes, and I have to take lots of money to both places, too much in fact to combine the trips. Again, that is none of your business, but I flew home and back to Bolivia in 48 hours time. COSTLY Of course, you attempt to pretend to know what I spent, but not possible if you weren't there. I have around 300 grams, now you neglect to mention that I have over 150 grams of DUST. Kevin, what can I do with the dust? Not much, so please scratch that off of your profit scale. I also have GIVEN many grams to sciece, sold some, donated some to labs. So, in the interest of making this shorter, how much might I make? Oh, I will make a few thousand dollars. CAPITALISM at it's best, you got one part right at least. I make money on a trip which was dangerous, and I traveled thousands of miles from home. Dang, who would guess that it might be nice to make a profit, sure helps make up for all the UNPROFITABLE trips. I will tell you what, I have made this offer before, I will gladly give up my profit making if you pony up the thousands of dollars that each trip costs BEFOREHAND. AWWWW, I thought so, no-one will do that, the risk of financial loss AND GAIN is all mine to bear. Kevin, I tried to have the meteorite excavated, and by the way, the video is being worked on, which will be posted soon you can all see my make my speach to the village, you can all see what I said firsthand, to see my interest was, in saving the meteorite from destruction, not taking it! I could not carry tons away in my luggage, so please stop acting like I was trying to. The crater is full of human waste, garbage, and muddy water, so my friend, do not try and compare TWO ACHONDRITES like Pena Blanca Spring and Angrs dos Res to Carancas, you have never seen Carancas, it starts to rust in HUMID AIR, much less sitting in water now for nearly one month! PLEASE, let us all know what happens with a pourous, fragile, metal-rich, fractured chondrite after one month in sewage. IT IS MESSED UP already. Sure, it can be dug up still, but by the second it is becoming more and more worthless in every form of value. You can't handle it, you can't handle that you have nothing to do with meteorites, you can't handle that I am traveling the world getting them, I was in Spain, I was in Colombia, and I was in Peru in a span of less than 10 days time, all three trips with meteorites that I recovered. Last time you fought with me I was in India, years ago getting a meteorite, it is the same story then, you crying about me doing my job. Get over it, stay in Costa Rica, play with your hotel and leave me out of your emails. Then we will both be happy. Michael Farmer Received on Wed 10 Oct 2007 03:23:22 AM PDT |
