The bad news (which includes meteorite related issues) everything else is in the wreckage. Late Friday night minding my own business driving down a 4 lane road my truck and trailer was totaled by an impaired driver who thought I had some gall to be in his drag racing lane. I did all kinds of Demolition Derby quality manuevers but near the end it was me following my cargo trailer down the highway not vice versa. For all of 1 second I was thinking. "Hey! Not a bad moonshiners turn I can get this rig stopped--NOT". The trailer rolled to the driver's side, taking the truck with it. As I skidded along watching road gravel bounce off my nose I wasn't concerned about my life but was worried about my meteorite collection's survival. I remain worried because everything was catapulted onto the roadside and down an embankment. They won't let me see what was recovered until Monday morning but did say that lots of small things weren't picked up. I was transporting my meteorite collection around 400 specimens plus several cases of mineral specimens. So you are the first to hear about the latest strewn field location. Since the wreck was an observed event does this make them falls or finds? Aside from writing the list to lament this "ouch", I may need help in the Allentown PA area recovering and sorting. If anyone might have some spare time local to the area to help look for the pieces please let me know and I'll share location with you. I am not up to walking much but hope to start some searching Tuesday. Lucky to still be a collector, Elton Received on Sun 05 Aug 2007 01:30:39 PM PDT |
