[meteorite-list] Fwd: Rob Elliott retiring as seller (?!)

See how often we promote here on the list and if I remember Dave Harris was
speaking about NWA 4485, not 4472 in that thread, which you used to promote
immediately your 4472. So you are mixing up the protagonists.
Both stones were coming out at the same time.
(4485 is the main mass of that find, so we gladly accept you acknowledgement
of our hard work too.)
But, you'll understand, that for such a kind of immature discussions,
we won't be at disposal. (That we leave to other experts).

Best!
Martin

Yes Martin,

Regarding NWA 4472, yes, at first there were 3 last "complete slices", then
2. After no one wanted the complete slices after many offerings, I broke one

of them down into part slices for those who only wanted or could afford
smaller specimens. End of that story.

As you know, sometimes collectors like to trade-up specimens, thus leaving
the first round back to other collectors. This was similar in what happened
with NWA 4527, an unpaired Martian I introduced recently. I offered the
largest stone (small ~10 grams) to try and preserve it whole. There were no
takers but plenty who asked that if I ever cut it, to let them know so they
could trade-up in size or get one for those who were not able to get one of
the few slices from the first round. Once cut and offered to those who
emailed, the trade-in pieces came back and were re-offered. This did not
change the TKW, just the fact that the first round was re-sold.

You are right, an argument is not worth my, yours and especially the List's
time. For future reference, do not use my name to promote yourself and we
will be just fine. I work too hard to have this kind of "strategy" done by
others. If someone uses my hard work to promote sales or otherwise of their
own material, you can rest assured that I will make all that I have
available known so collectors can have a choice.

Best regards,
Greg

O.k Greg,

I have no time to argue with you,
take a look into the archives in January, where you promoted in your weekly
ads, trying to rush the collectors into buying,
that first there would be

the last 3 slices of your NWA 4472 available

and in one of the next ads,

you stated, that you would have only 2 slices left.

Go and look.

Availability is a main factor of pricing btw.

So I repeated in my reply to that post nothing else than the obviously wrong
information you supplied to my and to the list and where we were all relying
on.

Now you came out - self promoting - when a client shared his enthentusiasm
about his NWA 4485 specimen on the list on the occasion of the event of the
publishing of NWA 4485 in the Bulletin preview and in the database,

with a Whole Bunch of slices more.

Well, if that is a better strategy of promoting, I doubt.

Martin

Hello Michael, Martin and List,

These replies from Martin the last couple weeks are starting to look like
shameless self promotion. This week his group will be the only dealers out
there, real soon. Last week he stated I was sold out of a particular lunar
meteorite and went on to promote his own, even though I was not sold out.

Interesting strategy Martin! What else do you have up your sleeve ;-)

Best regards,
Greg
P.S. I will still be around for quite some time, too many goodies to share
that have not been announced yet!

Oh?

So maybe I got the wrong impression from the last shows, where you reduced
the meteorite assortment in favour of old china, artifacts, fossils.
Thus I was thinking you were turning now more away from the meteorites to
other business fields.

So welcome to the oligopoly of the meteorite future!!

Martin

Hello Martin and list members,

well Martin, we are absolutly not quitting this
business !!! First of all we love meteorites
and the knowledge they bring to us.

Secondly with the 2.4 tons officially exported from
Morocco and legaly imported in ECC we would be crazy
to give up such a good market.... especially now that many
new big collectors are coming to the meteorite world !

you will all have to count with us and www.meteorite.fr
by the way if anybody is looking for rare types or
pristine historical, our incredibly large inventory is waiting for you !!

Cheers from France,
