Hi,

there exists already a mailing list or yahoo group for such a competitive
behaviour (which is from the collector's point of view certainly not the
worst thing),
called: meteorite-noise

Some of the policies are:
a) shameless comercialism
b) flame wars
c) "I agree" and other low informative messages
d) comments on dealers

Thus all the things, which are discussed here frequently to be superflous:
personal attacks, excessive advertisings, lonely hearts club messages,
satisfaction of the urge for profiling, ect. have there a forum.

Personally I'm ennerved from the ebay-ads here on the list - an ebay auction
has no fixed price, thus it's no offer - and finally we have for this kind
of ads the new ebay-meteorite group: eBaymeteorites

Also I would be happy, if such multiple ads of that kind: "Hey I'll list my
stinky Campo on ebay tomorrow - hi, now my stinky Campo is listed - don't
forget, that I listed my stinky Campo - only 5 days left and my stinky Campo
is still far below true value - this evening my stinky Campo will end - now
my stinky Campo is sold, but for those, who missed the stinky and superrare
Campo on ebay, I still own 20 chunks more, wherefrom I will list the next
one on ebay tomorrow - da capo ad infinitum.

I would suggest a restriction for this list: 2 ads per member and month.

I have a lot of material for sale too, but I feel, that it could be regarded
as a lack of education, if I would post every second day an ad here.
Ebay ads: post it on the ebay-list, other ads: list it in the yahoo groups
of commercial orientation, where they are welcomed:
MeteoriteCollectors
meteorite_sale
Those, who like to profit from such ads - suscribe there!

Nothing to say against offers referring on a topic discussed here on the
list, for collectors getting a sample of the stuff, where the discussion
aroused interest in
or at least and other way round: it would be nice from those notoric
advertisers to describe detailled the pecularities, history, bibliography
ect. of the material they offer, to start a new thread or for us collectors
to gain more informations and to learn more about meteorites!

My words into the wind,
Martin
