Hello Al and list,

Al noted: "An interesting topic for discussing,
does a meteorite belong to the property that it impacted on or where it
bounced to?"

It appears the city first thought....it hit the street, the meteorites are
ours. But then if it claimed the meteorites, it had to claim all the damage
the meteorites did. The city quickly rethought its position.

In the link I sent the other day.
(http://www.meteoritearticles.com/pfwinslowcrater.html), second photo, which
was taken shortly after the fall by Steve Arnold (IMB), note the yellow
ribbon for the Iraq war on the tree, you can see the spot of impact on the
street and the photo is pretty much lined up right so that the meteorite
will hit the porch....about six feet in the air.

The crater was removed by Dale, the husband. Photos of the removal can be
found here:

Stuck inside in the hot mid-west.....

PS: Can anyone else think of any other vertical craters?
