I have used for some Sikhotes, which have marks of rust just ordinary gun-oil to remove the rust and protect them for the humidity. If you live nearby the sea or so, it may be wise to use some more powerfull tricks. If youīll check the archive, there was a quite good list, what to do by Mike Gallant / Steve Schoner dated 26.04.2003. pekka Lars Pedersen wrote: > Hi > > > > I know this subject have been up before, but I am a bit slow, so I > atke the chance and ask agin. > > > > I have bought a couple of very fine Sikhote-Alinīs and want to protect > them from rusting. > > > > I want a protection like when hunters protect their rifles - some kind > of oil or wax. > > BUT I dont want a "plastic-like" surface. > > I want them to dry up and look normal, and still beeing protected for > some time before I have to clean them and do it again. > > > > I was thinking of WD40, but then I read on this list that it contained > water.... is there any probleme with that ? > > > > Any sugestions ? > > > > Thanks > > Lars Pedersen > -- Pekka Savolainen Jokiharjuntie 4 FIN-71330 Rasala FINLAND + 358 400 818 912 Group Home Page: http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/eurocoin Group Email Address: eurocoin_at_smartgroups.com --------------070308060001040302000504 Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Sikhote is not the worst ruster, but it´s a quite fresh fall, so hard
to say, how do they look after 100 years...;-

Anyway, the main thing is to keep water away from the irons, so if
WD40 contains water, don´t use it.

I have used for some Sikhotes, which have marks of rust just ordinary
gun-oil to remove the rust and protect them for the humidity.
