In light of Dean Bessey's recent discussions related
to the question of the "cultural heritage" of Canadian
meteorites, I think it is appropriate to point out the
current debate in the U.S. Congress. This new
legislation refers to seven "basic principles", the
first of which is:

Fossils on federal land are part of America's
heritage"

The link to meteorites may not be apparent, but lately
I haven't been able to give a lecture on meteorite
recovery without the questions gravitating to this
same subject -
the current bill pending in U.S.Congress:

The Paleontological Resources Preservation Act, H.R.
