Trip Through The Southwest Looking at Meteorite Related Phenomenom.

To All List Subscribers,
This is a note about an up and coming trip the Geology and
Geophysics department at the University of Wyoming is taking to look at
Upheaval Dome, Meteor Crater, the Meteorite Museum at the University of
New Mexico, and a possible stop at Great Sand Dunes in Colorado. The
purpose of the trip is to look at
what makes up a meteorite crater( or asteroid strike if you prefer).
The Upheaval Dome structure is massive, and holds prospects of
being a crater. This will be discussed by looking at the stuctures first
hand. At Meteor Crater I would Like to take people down inside the
structure, but this needs to be worked out with the National Park Service.
The Meteorite Museum is towards the end, and I am working on maybe getting
a lecture from one of the curators. The Great Sand Dunes are a unique
place to visit, and it would just be an aside from the main trip.
This is still in the works, and I need to know if any body is
interested. It wil be limited to ten persons, as we haven't much space in
the universty's vehicles. The trip will take place in AUG 98, and would
last 4-5 days. Camping will be the main accomdation, but a hotel will be
used when in New Mexico.
I want to incorporate a wider audience, than just students of
geology. So If you are interested let me know directly.
