The Gem and Mineral Show is the most important event for Tucson's economy
which has declined to new lows the last few years. Tucson needs to be
recognized for more than consistently making the top ten list of most
impoverished cities in the United States. Perhaps they should double down
and again regain title to hosting the world's largest Gem and Mineral Show.

I remember having to book hotel rooms months in advance and having great
difficulty securing a rental car 16 years ago around show time. I checked
to see available just yesterday and getting a room is no problem this year
so there is a bright side to this downturn in fortunes.
