I suppose this is an appropriate time to share this; http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa325/desertsunburn/Franconia_zps0e1ff64e.jpg which obsoletes any previous map or strewn field study in the Franconia area and extends the previously published strewn field by an additional 4 miles, corrects some mapping errors on previous maps. The map represents over 1200 recoveries. The green are chondrites and the blue are ungrouped irons....predominately H-Metal. The data for the recoveries will be made available at a later date. YUCCA 015 is still pending approval by the NomCom, so will be interesting to see them approve this soon! It does have a nice data. set Other samples are in various stages of classifications and will be shared when that is complete. While any strewnfield map is fluid, we know 1000's of addtional finds in the last decade have not been recorded on this map and most lost to science forever. I know of approximately 500 additional finds since this map was first printed about 6 months or so ago. The following folks all contributed their find data which made this map possible; Larry Atkins Jerry Baird Troy Ball Jim Bowden Mark Bowling Brian Couch Robert Crane Richard Garcia Paul Harris Dave Libuszowski Robert Matson Cody Miller Roy Miller Dough Ross Stan Santiago Terry Scott Keith Semanko Larry Sloan Robert Smith Jason Snyder Greg Stanley Homer Stocham Jim Tobin Robert Verish Dennis Wells James Winn John Wolfe Wendy Wooddell Jim Wooddell Enjoy! Although he won't take the credit, it's my opinion that his efforts greatly influenced the unification of the DCAs (Dense Collection Areas) in the Franconia Area. This has resulted in a new DCA: Yucca. > > In any case, history was made today in Arizona. > > And congrats to Jim Wooddell. > > Bob V. > > --- On Sat, 3/9/13, Galactic Stone & Ironworks <meteoritemike at gmail.com> wrote: > >> From: Galactic Stone & Ironworks <meteoritemike at gmail.com> >> Subject: [meteorite-list] Met Bulletin Update - New Dense Collection Area, and NWA Nakhlite >> To: "Meteorite List" <meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com> >> Date: Saturday, March 9, 2013, 9:48 AM >> >> Hi Bulletin Watchers, >> >> A new dense collection area has been approved - Yucca. >> >> See the details here - http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/MetBullNews.php?id=1 >> >> The new approvals are 2 NWA's (one Nakhlite) and 2 OC's from >> the Yucca >> dense collection area. >> >> Link - http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.php?sea=&sfor=names&ants=&falls=&valids=&stype=contains&lrec=50&map=ge&browse=&country=All&srt=name&categ=All&mblist=All&rect=&phot=&snew=2&pnt=Normal%20table&dr=&page=0 >> >> Best regards and happy huntings, >> >> MikeG >> >> -- >> > ______________________________________________ > > Visit the Archives at http://www.meteorite-list-archives.com > Meteorite-list mailing list > Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com > http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list -- Jim Wooddell jimwooddell at gmail.com 928-247-2675Received on Mon 11 Mar 2013 08:16:33 PM PDT |
