Little addendum, Doug:

Chladni describes in the beginning of his big work:
"Ueber Feuer-Meteore , und ?ber die mit denselben herabgefallenen Massen" of
1819,
on page 6-8,
how Lichtenberg brought him to meteorites.
(With a funny footnote, how aghast Lichtenberg reacted on his first
publication of 1794).
