Simple cut meteorites regardless of classifications often look the same to the untrained eye. But with thin sections the differences become very apparent. Thin sections are a requirement in the classification of meteorites, and adding microscopic photos of them with a photo of the meteorite mass would be a good publication. Thin sections can be had for a little as $20 each for lower grade slides. Some meteorite collectors often collect only thin sections as these are much smaller and can be stored easily. I would like to start a collection of meteorite photographs, of rocks that have been classified. Preferably the photos would be good resolution, high quality of the INTERIOR section- showing the grain structures. If you have a specimen ID card, a good photo of that would also be great. Feel free to send as many as you'd like! I'm doing this so I can start getting a good idea of what the different classifications look like for a reference. I just purchased a high powered digital microscope camera to look at my own specimens with. I have no intention of classifying my own, but I would like to get a good idea of what they MIGHT be, and see if any may be worthy of having them classified. After I get them compiled, I'd be happy to share the results with all contributors and anyone else on the list that might like to have a copy. Any additional information that you'd like to submit with each photo would be more than welcome. Information and documentation is what I am looking for, so the more the better. If you'd like to send photos but not have them included in the distributed copies, that will be fine also. Just let me know what info is or isn't for publication. I'm not trying to make any money off of this or write a book, it is just for reference and would be free to anyone that would want it. Thanks for your time and hopeful contributions!
