AstroDay Festival is Hawai'i Island's version of the popular event started by Northern California Amateur Astronomers then president Doug Berger in 1972. AstroDay is a Celebration of Astronomy and Hawaiian Culture, regularly attracts 12,000+ attendees annually, and has earned national recognition and won awards 7 of the 8 years it has been held since its inception in 2002, including the Best Astronomy Day awards in 2002 and 2007 (we didn't enter in 2008 and 2009). AstroDay will feature interactive exhibits from every observatory on Mauna Kea, demonstrations and presentations, Hawaiian cultural displays, Starlab planetarium shows, solar viewing, a Kids Corner, and hula and Hawaiian musical performances throughout the day. Many prizes will be given away, including several Celestron telescopes. I may even have a few meteorites on display and to touch and hold at the event. There are shared learning opportunities for the entire family, and stargazing later that evening at the Visitor Information Station on Mauna Kea with hosts from the Hilo Astronomy Club and West Hawaii Astronomy Club. More information can be found here: http://astroday.net/ Highlights of previous events can be found here: http://astroday.net/Hilites.html Anyone in the Hilo area is welcome to join us for this free event. Hope to see some of you there!
