Hi there,

Peekskill was admittedly a poor example; I chose Peekskill solely to
make a little joke about the former New York governor's hometown;
there are many common chondrites which can nicely illustrate the
point I was attempting to make.

Unlike most who have weighed-in, I do not believe the cost of the
recovery should closely correlate with the value of the meteorite. I
mean, what if there were supersaver flights to Columbia that week--is
the meteorite worth less? I also do not believe such anomalies are
healthy or positive for our beloved hobby/vocation. I know several
wealthy individuals who were prospective meteorite collectors--with
an intent to be SERIOUS collectors--who ran the other way as a result
of what THEY termed the "immaturity" of the meteorite marketplace.

Mike B, Valera was indeed one of the all-time great deals, and it's
unfortunate this meteorite's rightful legacy was sullied by
professional jealousies. Separately, I'm confident you didn't mean to
imply that opinions regarding valuations are predicated on "I scratch
your back; you scratch mine." In any event, it was truly not my
intention to take a personal shot at you, and I apologize if I went
too far. It's just that I respectfully disagree with your advocacy
of expensive anomalies; I think your role as an author regarding
market trends while being proactive in the marketing of such
anomalies can create problematic misperceptions.

All best I hope everyone sees a great show tonight.

Sincerely,
Darryl
