Motion appears to have been from Cleveland, to Pittsburgh, to Philadelphia, to Dover, Delaware. West to East. Looks like orbital debris, offhand. SW3 frags so far have travelled mainly from South to North. On the other hand, it did detonate with a blue light, which is unusual for orbital junk. A residual fuel explosion? North Korea's satellite? Now why couldn't this thing just have detonated dead over say Philadelphia? Sure, we get a 300 ton blast, but its in the middle of subartic Norway. Oh well, this should be good for getting some radio air time to sell some books anyhow. all the best, Ed --- Ron Baalke <baalke_at_zagami.jpl.nasa.gov> wrote: > > http://www.timesreporter.com/index.php?ID=55330&r=0 > > Boom lowered on Valley: Loud blast, red streaks in > sky probably a > meteor, say experts > > By ZACH LINT > Times-Reporter > June 20, 2006 > > Residents of the Tuscarawas Valley who heard a > deafening boom about > 12:40 a.m. Monday and stepped outside likely saw > what one person > described as "a marvelous fireball with red streaks > in the sky." > > Bob Reed, a meteorologist with the National Weather > Service in > Pittsburgh, said it probably was a meteor falling > through the atmosphere. > > "We did receive one call from (Sky Warn) people who > were basically > wondering what was causing it," he said.
