Darren,

    Do you have exact statistics on how many
fireballs, bolides, and falls have been witnessed by
sky-divers (who are the only folks I know who
"hurtle" through the sky)?
    Just kidding, althought I admire the way you
deflect potential controversy by saying "somewhat
rare." Just how rare is "somewhat"?
    Probably best to qualify the statement. The List
is such a contentious place...

I would suspect that meteorites seen by people who are hurtling through the
sky
are somewhat rare.
