All I can say is they continue to send bi-monthly solicitations to my late mother (who died almost six years ago), despite at least a dozen notificationtions that the addressee is deceased. We finally gave up, and the mailings continue. We support other charities (and, frankly, are frustrated by Samaritans Purse's apparent "deafness"), so the mailings are wasted on us. Anyway, do what you think is right. We're all (to a greater or lesser extent) in this together. Having worked for the American Red Cross at one time, I am convinced they waste money worse than any other organization to which I have been exposed. I am also aware many organizations use a huge percentage of the money they collect for advertising and administration - some up to over 90%! So, I was delighted to discover an organization that uses 4 % for advertising, 6% for administration and 90% for the specific cause selected by the donor, NOT a general fund which goes to a different cause than what people intended their dollar to go towards, as is common with many charities. This is an international organization called Samaritans Purse. Samaritans Purse has been mobilized with teams on the ground in Hurricane Katrina ravaged area since Tuesday, the day after the Hurricane hit providing food, water, clothing, medicine, shelter, spiritual support and more. There are 10's of thousands of people who have nothing right now, who have lost loved ones and have no promise of a future. Some are still hanging on, surviving for their lives. Anything you do will help. 90% of all funds raised by Samaritans Purse for Hurricane Katrina victims go towards Katrina Hurricane victims. Here is the contact information for Samaritans Purse. You can donate or ask questions by phone or right on their website by clicking on the blue "donate" button for Hurricane Katrina at: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/ 1(800) 567-8183 Best wishes, Michael -- Beware the fury of a patient man.
