For years astronomers and geologists have been watching for any report of a meteorite falling of being discovered imbedded in the soil of the state. The specimen now on display in the museum is a large fragment of a meteorite which fell in Tilden, a town 45 miles southeast of St. Louis, Mo., on July 12, 1927. The meteorite landed in three masses - one weighing 110 pounds, one 45 pounds and one 9 pounds. The NPA in the subject line, stands for Newspaper Article. The old list server allowed us a search feature the current does not, so I guess this is more for quick reference and shortening the subject line now. Received on Mon 28 Mar 2005 05:14:16 PM PST |
