I found this in my "Concise Dictionary of Slang and
Unconventional English" edited by Paul Beale:

blog (noun)

A servant-boy in one of the houses: Rugby Schoolboys:
from ca. 1860. A perversion of bloke. Hence a common
boy of the town.

No idea what they are talking about but that's what I find :-)
