You know there's a lot of antiquities being smuggled out of Italy and into Italy at the moment and they do open suspicious packages. Hell , there's even a ban on exporting Roman Empire coins , and they people find them every day there, sometimes in caches of a hundred pounds or more -mostly copper an bronze. I heard through some archaelogy fans that theres a United Nations Ban on export of "All " antiquities out of Italy . If your package paperwork mentioned that it was a meteorite or even mineral of some sort , they (italian Customs) figure that maybe the receiver in Italy might also be exporting antiquities and outlawed minerals , antiquities, and especially meteorites- so they check him/her out. This takes a hell of a lot of time. Could be one possibility.
