As a folklorist and historian I have been surprised by the number of "weird meteorite" tales I have found in 18th-early 20th century newspapers and books. I have received many of these during the research phase of a Fortean/Folklore-related project we currently conducting ("Magonia Exchange" - I want to stress that it concerns folklore and Fortean beliefs, it is not really UFO-oriented, and has serious objectives), and some of them concern hollow meteorites, some concealing objects or manuscripts. As this folkloric motif has gone practically unexamined, I would first like to establish whether the observation of hollow meteorites could have helped produce the legends, but also have a fairly good idea about how such objects could be formed in nature. Therefore, to answer your entirely warranted technical question, let me say: I don't know! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris ===== http://embark.to/magonia ____________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger - Communicate instantly..."Ping" your friends today!
