Date: Thu Apr 22 10:31:10 2004 Message-ID: <406DCC82.9020500_at_epix.net> As to oxide coloration, I have been recently reading over the research on the Triassic sandstone "red beds" which were laid down around the time of the last Euro-Aftican-North American rift. Consequently the same formation has exposures in southwest Europe, Morocco, and The north eastern US. Analysis shows that iron oxide in concentrations as low as .1 %(one tenth of one percent) are sufficent to give these beds their deep red color.
