The remnants, according to Director, GSI B.K. Mohanty, resemble slags = and are dark in colour. However, these fragments are small in size and = also light in weight. He said these parts of the meteor were retrieved from around the = gutted hut in Kaptipada. These fragments were probably responsible for = the fire in the thatched house, he said. However, there could still be a bigger remnant of the meteor from = which the smaller ones emanated, Mohanty said adding, the team was = looking for it. The main portion could be lying buried somewhere. Since = a meteor travels at a tremendous speed after entering the Earth's = atmosphere, any bigger remnant would pierce into the latter's surface. However, the team has now been instructed to visit Balasore and = Bhadrak to find if any remnant has landed there. The team would return = to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday with the fragments. On Monday, a second GSI team was sent to Mahakalpara block under = Kendrapara district where a 6 kg stone-like object was found by = villagers in Suniti. ********Fwd By Atul Kumar- Calumet Astronomical Society*************** =20 =20 ------=_NextPart_000_0042_01C386AB.876B6D80 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-1" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.00.2314.1000" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT size=3D2>"The remnants, according to Director, GSI B.K. = Mohanty,=20 resemble slags and are dark in colour.
