It is now believed that a meteor fell near here and when the burning mass= struck the earth that it exploded. Several young people, returning from a dance at Golconda, saw a meteor fa= ll and were frightened. They said they thought it struck the earth a mikl= e or two north of Winnemucca. J. A. Wolgamat, Orovada rancher, who was ca= mping near Paradise Hill, saw the spectacle and says it struck near Winne= mucca. A large number of meteors were observed during the night and about fiftte= en minutes before the explosion a very large and bright one was seen to f= all apparently burning until it struck the earth north of town. Several parties are conducting a search today for the meteor.
