[meteorite-list] Seems PF fell on 3/27 and NOT on 3/26...

The force of resistance will change as the object decends to denser layers of the atmosphere, and would imagine it depends on the size of the object (aerodynamic cross section vs. volume and mass), might depend a little on shape, might depend on whether the object is oriented or rotating, probably depends on factors that would affect turbulence around the object, etc. I doubt "terminal" velocity is the same for the large pieces and the smaller ones. It's not as simple as dropping a big rock and a little rock from a tower for example. Does anyone know of a measurement of terminal velocity from any fall, catching one on radar or something? (i teach physics - couldn't let that one go!). cheers, john p.s. does anyone know how to access the archives with out generating a 'program failure' and having to close down the website window??? a settings problem? thanks. -----Original Message----- From: meteorite-list-admin_at_meteoritecentral.com [mailto:meteorite-list-admin_at_meteoritecentral.com]On Behalf Of CMcdon0923_at_aol.com Sent: Friday, June 06, 2003 8:40 AM To: MeteorHntr_at_aol.com; meteorite-list@meteoritecentral.com Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] Seems PF fell on 3/27 and NOT on 3/26... <<At a terminal velocity of 32 feet per second, that would be <<1,980 seconds of falling or 33 minutes of falling. TV is more than 32 fps....that equates to only about 22MPH. ______________________________________________ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list ______________________________________________ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list Received on Fri 06 Jun 2003 11:11:54 AM PDT |
