A Wonderful Meteor
DES MOINES, Ia., May 2. - A special to the leader from Emmettsburg, Ia., =
says: At half-past five o'clock yesterday evening the northwestern heaven=
s became suddenly illuminated, and immediately all eyes were cast in that=
 direction. A large ball of blazing fire was seen traveling with lightnin=
g-like rapidity towards the earth, leaving in its a path a beautiful wrea=
th of smoke which remained an object of curiosity of several minutes afte=
rwards. Several minutes after the appearance of the meter, a loud report =
was heard which caused the earth to shake and tremble vigorously and star=
tled the observers.
