Mike:
Hello and thanks for enlightening us with the information about the =
Police. I'm enough of a cynic that it doesn't surprise me too much. =
There have been areas of the country where police corruption has been a =
long standing problem. Chicago area, Rhode Island, and New Orleans have =
historically been major problems. While abuses from police have =
occasionally been problems throughout the US, it's easy to understand =
while in the course of a dangerous duty, someone can make an incorrect =
decision. This is not the case with respect to corruption, where there =
is obvious forethought. =20
As to whether fighting or compromising is best, it unfortunately =
depends on the financial resources available to fight and the venue in =
which the fight would occur. Police corruption exists as a part of a =
larger judicial problem, therefore, it is unlikely that you would =
receive a fair hearing anywhere near Chicago. It annoys me to say this, =
but I think the best chance for you would be the arrangement you worked =
out. This is the greatest country on earth, but we're still far from =
perfect.

George
