<P>If this incredible discovery turns out to be true then it will only drive the price of this meteorite up even more.&nbsp; It has also been confirmed that pieces picked up after the rain are rusting.&nbsp; So the supply of pristine Park Forest meteorites will be of a much lower weight than the ultimate TKW would indicate.</P>
<P>I sure am glad that I got my specimen early.&nbsp; Thanks again Mike for a great piece.</P>

<DIV></DIV>&gt;Hi Mike and list,
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Sorry you missed out on a truly important find. Several scientist have been
<DIV></DIV>&gt;consulted and all say that a roof hit by a meteorite could not cause such
<DIV></DIV>&gt;forms. The official consensus are these are a product of the fall . I was
<DIV></DIV>&gt;told by one scientist this is an extremely fantastic discovery. A famous
<DIV></DIV>&gt;NASA Scientist is now involved. This truly is a new discovery.
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;All the best,
<DIV></DIV>&gt;

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; Adam, I spoke with some people and they all tell me tar from roofing does
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; that. I would suggest heating one to see what happens.

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; Dear List,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; We compared these to a composition shingle and could not find anything
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; similar. From what I understand a dumbbell has to be spinning in a
<DIV></DIV>&gt;molten
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; state in order to create such a shape, the same goes for the patty
<DIV></DIV>&gt;shapes
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; with sunken centers. The few scientist we talked to are going wild over
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; this discovery because nothing as been reported like this before.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; All the best,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt;

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Adam,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; I was just going to write and ask you the same question. "Have you
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; checked the shingle?" Meanwhile I have several grams of particles and
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; dust collected from five street and parking lot impact points, that I
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; will "assume" are free of any possible shingle contaminents. I was
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; hoping you could give me an approximate size of the particles you are
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; finding.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Thanx,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Steve

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Adam,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Are the particles metallic? Can they be picked up with a magnet?
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; In a classic search for micro-meteorites I found the same type of
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; thing in debris from my gutters. It was separated out with a
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; magnet and then sorted under a microscope. I thought that I had
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; found a great collection of micros. That is until I repeated the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; experiment on my neighbors on both sides, nada, nothing, great
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; disappointment! I have now come to believe that they came from my
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; composition shingles . I have no idea how or what industrial
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; process is involved. I will send you a photo of some that I found.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; I have always wanted to know more but didn't know where to go from
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; here. I guess a nickel test could be done if I sacrificed enough
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; of them. So far I have been unwilling to as the collecting was
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; very labor intensive. I will be interested in your results.

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Dear List Members,
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; You are going to think we are insane announcing this but we feel
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; it is important. We acquired a computer game still in the box that
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; was struck by a meteorite inside a house on Dunham street in the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Park Forest neighborhood. This is from the same site that Mike
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Farmer purchased the House Hammering stone. This game box acted as
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; a receptacle trapping some fragments from the meteorite, wood from
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; the attic and sheet rock from the ceiling. While examining the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; contents of the game box under a microscope we were shocked to see
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; the following objects:
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Dumbbell shaped glassy forms
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Teardrop shaped glassy forms
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Rod shaped glassy forms
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Patty shaped glassy forms with sunken centers
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Ball shaped glassy forms
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Dumbbell

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; http://www.lunarrock.com/ParkForest/microtektites2.jpg
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; Mixture of several types
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; http://www.lunarrock.com/ParkForest/microtektites3.jpg
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; These are all the same shapes you will find in Tektites, yet
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; these cannot be called impactites since the meteorite did not melt
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; any objects when it crashed through the roof. This is no joke so
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; you collectors in the field may want to revisit the houses that
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; were struck by meteorites and collect the debris left behind before
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; it is too late. We do not know the scientific importance of this
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; discovery but will find out soon since the University of Washington
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; is interested in pursuing these strange objects. It has been
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; suggested that these objects may have come from the ablation train
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; left behind by this fall. It is our hope that more of this
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; material is collected before it is too late.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; &gt; &gt;
