IRKUTSK -- A scientific expedition will set out on Tuesday for the meteorite
crash site in the Irkutsk region (Siberia).

According to the latest data disclosed by Viktor Grigoryev, deputy head of
the Solar and Earth Physics Institute of the Siberian Department of the
Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), the meteorite fell on September 25th
about 30km from the Mama village, not in the Bodai district as was
previously believed. The crash site's co-ordinates were corrected on the
basis of data obtained by Irkutsk seismologists and an American satellite
which registered a burst of the meteorite exploding in the atmosphere.

According to Grigoryev, chances to find fragments of the space traveller
are low because of low temperatures and show in the region. The primary
objective is to minimise the search area. Scientists are planning to
achieve this goal by getting into hard-to-reach areas of taiga as far as
possible.

The expedition at issue will last for a week. Scientists are next
expected to visit the area in spring.
