The depth was perfect for the m-box to sit up on end. Of = course I can't readily see the specimen but I can see the label. I tape = a small label to the side of the m-box which has been working fine. As = the lid of the m-box attaches to one side of the box, the tape doesn't = interfer with me opening the m-box should I desire to open it. Initially = I was sent a few specimens in m-boxes and didn't like them, but I later = acquired several crusted micros and was happy with the m-boxes as it = allowed me to see the crusted backs. You can also sneak a slightly = larger piece in the m-boxes than in the small specimen boxes.=20 I also had a couple iron micros in the small display boxes that got = incipient rust spots. After I cleaned them up and wiped with a thin coat = of gun oil, I put them in m-boxes. Haven't had any problems with those = since. I think the m-boxes might have a tighter seal. Different ways of = doing the same thing and each one works for the individual collector. =20 I looked into those membrane boxes but I chose for stay with the 1 x 1 = inch boxes with pads for several reasons. My main concern was what to = do with all the membrane boxes? The 45 box storage case was readily = available and I could not locate a similar trey in which to place the = membrane boxes. Just out of curiosity, do you store or display the = membrane cases in any type of medium or simply place them on a display = shelf? =20 =20 Also I do sacrifice viewing the bottom of the specimen but the bottom = of the box makes a nice place to put the id lable. An alternative would = be to have the id label unattached, beside the (boxed) specimen bu I = don't like the idea of a "loose" label sitting beside the specimen as = invariably they would get mixed up, a tleast in my house they would! =20 The only place I could figure out to place the label on the membrane = box was to place it on the side of the box using an adhesive type label, = which made it cumbersome when I wanted to take the specimen out of the = box. Where do you place the id label? =20 Also, being the cheap person that I am, I can get 3 to 5 1 inch boxes = for the cost of one membrane :-). =20 -Walter =20 =20 ----------------------------------------------- Walter Branch, Ph.D. Branch Meteorites 322 Stephenson Ave., Suite B Savannah, GA 31405 USA www.branchmeteorites.com ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Frank Cressy=20 To: Walter Branch ; meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com ; = trandall_at_idsi.net=20 Sent: Monday, July 29, 2002 11:37 PM Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] Making Micromount Meteorites I'll second the kudos Walter, a great job.
