I'm like a small kid with a new toy!) On examination under my binocular scope, I noticed a small patch of very finely crystalline purplish coloured crystals, like a crust. now I am presuming this is terrestrial in origin and possibly the start of the equivalent of a desert varnish? As I understand it, manganese compounds figure in the creation of desert varnishes and if my chemistry is not too flawed manganese does have purplish salts. I only wish I had a 'scope I could take pics thru then I could stop the waffling and just point you all to a picture! I suspect I have not described this as well as I could... if so can someone please explain what I maybe seeing and what the process is? thanks! -- In gentle decay, dave IMCA #0092 imca_0092_at_hotmail.com (for IMCA member contact) http://www.meteorites.ic24.net/index.html http://www.meteoritecollectors.org "I have a proof that x^n+y^n=z^n never has integer solutions for n>2.
