For those who haven't, paste the below reference for a surprising view of the Bolivian Amazon Basin. Blaine Reed and I took two trips to Bolivia in an ultimately successful search for the country's first authenticated meteorite. Named after the nearest town of clay buildings built on blowing dust, "Sevaruyo" is an almond-sized, weathered H5 found in a dry river bed on the Altiplano at the highest altitude of any meteorite measured by GPS that I can find in the record - 3,749m/12,301.' These two trips were not my first, I had already been in the country for a solar eclipse in '94 prior to our journeys. I grow sadder on each visit. The return flight on either American Airlines or (Pink) Lloyd Boliviano first flies south from La Paz for a stop in Santa Cruz, a city built from money derived from cows and cocaine. You then fly north over the Amazon rainforest. Expecting to look below at magnificent endless expanses of trees and meandering, muddy streams? For those naively concerned with "shit," here's the true obscenity of our world...... http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/poll?view=5711&pollId=5721&channel=aol_us_resea rchandlearn Kevin Kichinka Received on Mon 09 Dec 2002 09:01:33 PM PST |
