Time and weather permitting, I'll also have rendez-vous with some of my favorite globular clusters (M13, M92, M3), some open clusters (h+chi Persei), the Andromeda galaxy, and, of course, some beautiful double stars, especially beta Cygni (Albireo) which 2002 NY40 will be close to in the course of the night and which my daughter used to call little brother and little sister when she was a young girl, etc., etc. I've just experienced some "wows!" when I looked at Dave's sunspot. No way were his comments a British understatement ... it is a truly awesome sunspot with several insulae and peninsulae attached to it, a clear, pitch-black umbra surrounded by a penumbra several times (3x - 4x) as large. The main sunspot is presently almost in the middle of the sun's disk so that you can conveniently view it without noticeable distortion. See ya' later, Bernd P.S.: Tom, don't sell your scope - you will regret that step some day! I also wanted to sell mine in the late eighties because of a beautiful 5-kg chunk of Toluca with deformed Widmannstätten lamellae. Looking back, I am glad I didn't sell it. Enjoy both the starry wonders in the sky AND your growing meteorite collection! My two Eurocents, Bernd Received on Sat 17 Aug 2002 06:58:32 AM PDT |
