This week (this is a 2nd hand story, but the source is reliable) Two of the
Professors were discussing the physics of microwaves, and finally, to
demonstrate that it was ultimatly the water molecules bouncing around that
caused water to heat up, they decided to test it by heating up a quartz
crystal in the microwave. Well, it got hot and failed to prove the point, so
another department member said that tektites are dehydrated, by the very
nature of they're creation, by the void of space and high heat of
entry...yada yada....so, since thay had some tektites on hand, they went and
got one and also got a piece of obsidian, both were placed in the microwave.
The tektite was warm but from convection and could be handled, the obsidian,
on the otherhand was found out to be wuite hot by one of the professors when
he picked it up, dropped it, and jumped around describing how hot it was.
