THE DALAI LAMA SENDS CONDOLENCES AND A DONATION OF $30,000 TO MAYOR=20 GIULIANI FOR THE NEW UORK CITY RELIEF EFFORTS NEW YORK - On September 13, 2001, His Holiness the Dalai Lama sent=20 a letter to New York City Mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, through the Office=20 of Tibet New York, in which he states, "I have just written to President = Bush expressing my deep sense of shock at the devastating terrorist=20 attacks that took place....We are deeply saddened. Our prayers go=20 out to the many who have lost their lives, those who have been injured=20 and the many more who have been traumatized by this senseless act=20 of violence." His Holiness the Dalai Lama, on behalf of the Tibetan people, is=20 donating $30,000 towards the relief effort as a "symbolic gesture=20 of our solidarity with the people in New york City" Nawang Rabgyal, the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Americas, will deliver this donation to Mayor Giuliani. =20 In yesterday's letter to President Bush, the Noble Laureate concludes=20 with these poignant remarks: "It may seem presumtuous on my part, but I personally believe we need to think seriously whether a violent=20 action is the right thing to do and in the greater interest of the=20 nation and people in the long run. I believe violence will only=20 increase the cycle of violence. But how do we deal with hatred and=20 anger, which are often the root causes of such senseless violence?"=20 The exiled leader appealed for a calm and farsighted response to=20 the attacks. The Prime minister of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile and the Chairman=20 of the Tibetan Parliament also sent condolence letters to the President=20 and the New York City Mayor. The Tibetan leaders conveyed their=20 confidence that the U.S. as a great nation will overcome these recent=20 events and the American people will show their resilience, courage=20 and determination. A special Prayer Session was held yesterday at the main temple in=20 Dharamsala, India for all the victims of the terrorist attack. More=20 than a thousand people joined His Holiness the Dalai Lama in prayer=20 for the victims. Today members of the Tibetan community of New York and New Jersey=20 will be holding a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. in Union Square. All=20 who wish to attend are welcome. ### The office of Tibet New York is the official representative office=20 of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government-in-exile=20 to the Americas. ------=_NextPart_000_000A_01C13D1F.A7962500 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>donation</TITLE> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-1" = http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D"MSHTML 5.00.2614.3500" name=3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV style=3D"FONT: 10pt arial">----- Original Message -----=20 <DIV style=3D"BACKGROUND: #e4e4e4; font-color: black"><B>From:</B> <A=20 href=3D"mailto:wschwar1_at_twcny.rr.com" = title=3Dwschwar1_at_twcny.rr.com>wylie=20 Schwartz</A> </DIV> <DIV><B>To:</B> <A href=3D"mailto:wschwar1_at_twcny.rr.com"=20 title=3Dwschwar1_at_twcny.rr.com>current list</A> </DIV> <DIV><B>Sent:</B> Friday, September 14, 2001 1:01 PM</DIV> <DIV><B>Subject:</B> donation</DIV></DIV> <DIV><BR></DIV><TT>Dear Friends of Namgyal Monastery,<BR><BR>I am = forwarding a=20 press release from the office of His Holiness which explains <BR>they = are=20 contributing financially toward the relief efforts in New York City. = <BR><BR>The=20 Namgyal Monastery in Ithaca, along with the Tibetan Association of = Ithaca, would=20 like also to contribute financially to this cause.
