About the size of a baseball, the meteorite put San Juan Capistrano on a rare list, perhaps the only meteorite in California spotted in its fall, then found on the ground. It put a hole in the roof of the carport, but nobody was injured. The meteorite made its way to San Juan geologist John Minch, then to UC San Diego. The information gleaned from it was priceless, officials said. Part of the meteorite is on display at the San Juan Institute which also puts on classes for kids." The article is accompanied by a picture of Richard Kenealy of the Institute holding a quarter sized piece. The Institute is at 31882 Camino Capistrano Phone #(949) 240-2010. Looks like I've got a visit to make! Jim Received on Sat 17 Mar 2001 04:16:51 PM PST |
