Volatiles in Murchison

> Do any of our regular bibliographers have any material on the
substances in M. that are volatile at terrestrial temp & pressure?

Peter

Taking volatile to mean methylnaphthalene, n-C13 or lower molecular
weights, here are some indications of the organic compounds present:

Studier et al., 1972 GCA 36, 189-215. Directly volatilised compounds
from Murchison at 150C and detected thirty four compounds, including
benzene, toluene, alklybenzenes, indanes and naphthalene.

Levy et al., 1973 GCA 37, 467-483. Directly volatilised compounds from
Murchison at 150C and detected toluene.

Yuen et al., 1984 Nature 307, 252-254. Freeze thaw disaggregation of
Murchison released low molecular weight hydrocarbons (methane, ethane,
etc.), monocarboxylic acids (Acetic acid, Propionic acid, etc.) and
benzene.

Sephton et al., 1998 GCA 62, 1821-1828. Supercritical Fluid Extraction
isolated toluene, naphthalene and methyl naphthalenes.
