I am researching the work of the tough-minded geologist W.H. Bucher
(deceased) who wrote about "cryptoexplosion" structures in the 1950s and
60s (Kathleen Mark's crater book discusses some of his work). Anyhow,
Bucher was a staunch believer that several alleged impact craters--i.e.,
the Reis basin--are in fact giant, maar-type volcanic structures.
Bucher had amassed some very interesting and unusual data; he even
explained how coesite and shatter cones can be part of volcanic/plutonic
processes. Any references to where any of his data and notes are
archived (if at all) would be a big help to me. Also, what other
references are there to coesite and shatter cones being found in
non-impact features--if any? Thanks! -- Lou Varricchio
