Re: Cleaning and preserving meteorite collections
hello Jim
here's a few suggestions on preservation;
contact Cole-Parmer (800)323-4340 for a copy of their full catalog.
They have a large selection of desiccator cabinets, the smallest being
a stackable 9"Wx7"Hx9"D clear, sealable cabinet for $99 each. They also
have a selection of solid rechargeable desiccants that can yield an extremely
pristine environment in a closed space.
Edmund Scientific's (800)728-6999 makes a small digital Hygrometer
for monitoring relative humidity for about $30.
I have found Sheath at "The Sports Authority" and "Walmart". It works
very well on irons.
I have just finished making an Oak display cabinet 2'Wx3'Hx7"D.
It has a fully gasketed door, glass shelves, a mirrored back (inside),
and a hidden area for desiccant. I'm just waiting on the tempered
glass panel for the door to finish it. Total cost of materials was
under $300. Feel free to contact me for further details.
Best regards,
Bill Camp
