Hello John,
The so called meteorites were bought at the Grassy Creek Rock &
Gem show in North Carolina last summer. The man who sold these
had said that they came from an area in western North Carolina, near
Maiden, in Catawba county. He had said that the original find was
probably 75 to 100 years ago. John,,,,are we talking about the same
so called meteorite?
Tim

: Hi, my name is John Sinclair and I am a gem, mineral & meteorite dealer
in
: NC. There is an area here in NC that is called "Iron Station" and it has
: pieces of iron ore scattered over a several mile area, concentrated in
some
: places. There has been several people that have sold these as "NC
: meteorites". They have no crystal structure and no trace of nickel.
They
: have never had a name or location attached to them. The dealers in
: question that were selling these as meteorites were told at one show "to
: stop selling them or pack up and leave the show " by the show chairman.
: They have finally come to the conclusion that what they have been selling
: as "NC meteorites" are a classic example of "meteowrongs", only after
: selling bucketfuls to many collectors all over the Southeast for lots of
: money. It was real nice for them to buy litttle rocks for a few dollars
per
: pound and then sell them for several hundred per pound, while it lasted.
