Hello list,
Just some food for thought: If you study the history of scientific
theories, particularly those that are polarized into two competing
schools of thought, you find that many times the data conflict because
parts of both theories are correct. Or neither theory is correct.
The Apollo and Luna sample returns threw a lot of questions at the lunar
origin proponents, however, there are aspects of tektite composition
that do not correspond well with a terrestrial origin.
Both theories have their strong and weak points. It's possible that
aspects of each are correct. When two camps are fighting like this they
tend to forget that there is nothing yet that requires tektites to come
from Earth OR Moon. It's possible that both can be sources for different
types of material.
Keep in mind that a theory is just a guess, educated, but none the less,
a guess.
Gene
