[meteorite-list] Going to meteorite-hunting trip in the US desert, advices and companions are welcome

        I recommend that you listen to Mike Farmer regarding temperatures in the southwest.  Here in Phoenix, it is currently 43? C.  In the Franconia Strewnfield it is 40? C, Gold Basin Strewnfield, 38? C, Holbrook Strewnfield 36? C, and these are cooler than the peak heat temperatures of August.  Even if you are merely visiting Meteor Crater, it is 38? C now, and will be much hotter in August.  The dry lakes are going to be hot too.  Red Lake is 36? C, Coyote Dry Lake is 39? C, and Yelland Dry Lake is 41? C, Lucerne Valley Dry Lake is 37? C.  You should change your travel dates to November or December.
I have seen too many visitors collapsed from heat prostration. Good planning is essential to success.

I will add that most of the desert hunting out here is done by eye, your metal detector would only be useful in a few, select spot.  You'll cover more ground just with your eye and magnet.  Good luck, let us know how your trip goes!
