THEY usually appear as nothing more than a quick flash of light before
disappearing from view.

But a family had a closer encounter than most when they discovered
suspected meteorites behind their back garden.

Joanne Mallinson, 34, said she was watching the meteor shower last week
with her sons, Josh, 16, and Jake, 11, when they heard something fall.

"It was about 1.30am last Thursday morning and we were watching the
stars," Ms Mallinson, of Percy Street, Goole, said.
