These big auction houses usually have "experts" at their disposal to vet their lots and consignors. However, meteorites are still lagging far behind other collectibles when it comes to authentication. A convincing-looking piece of fake Tiffany would likely be spotted, but an obviously misidentified meteorite (or meteorwrong) will slip through the cracks because Heritage's experts cannot tell a lump of magnetite from a meteorite - just like how the media's experts cannot tell the difference between an impact crater and a pothole. Buyer beware. -- ------------------------------------------------------------- Web - http://www.galactic-stone.com Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/galacticstone Twitter - http://twitter.com/galacticstone Pinterest - http://pinterest.com/galacticstone ------------------------------------------------------------- On 9/10/14, Paul Swartz via Meteorite-list <meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com> wrote: > Heritage will sell anything - all it needs is a buyer.
