[meteorite-list] Confusion between two Ontario, Canada meteors in 2014 (recent falls not classified)

I used to follow Mike Jensen's page of recent meteorite falls, but he quit updating it sometime in 2008 or 2009. His was more informative and included photos with links to news stories about each fall. I started keeping a tally as a way to keep track of recent witnessed falls I hoped to add to my collection. This mailing list is one of many sources that I use to populate the tally. Sometimes, promising bolides make the list and are removed later if no recoveries are made. I just removed the so-called "St. Thomas" event because it seems unlikely that there will be any finds. Others, like the so-called "Planeta Rica" fall (Jan 15, 2013) seem more likely to have produced meteorites which were recovered, but due to the dangerous nature of the local area, it seems unlikely that material will surface on the market. I leave it on the list because there are probably meteorites out there from that event. Here are the falls since 2005 which produced meteorites which were recovered (according to credible reports), but were never officially classified or approved : Jul 17, 2005 - "Montney" (unofficial) (H6 chondrite?) : Canada (Hammer) Sep 07, 2007 - "Guadalajara" (unofficial) (L or LL3 chondrite?) : Mexico (Hammer) Apr 12, 2008 - "Zunhua" (unofficial) (L4 chondrite?) : China (Hammer) Mar 01, 2009 - "Cartersville" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Georgia USA (Hammer) May 01, 2010 - "Breja/Taouz" (unofficial) (LL6 chondrite?) : Algeria Oct 30, 2012 - "Addison" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Alabama USA Oct 12, 2012 - "Beni Yacoub" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Morocco Jun 03, 2012 - "Comayagua" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Honduras (Hammer) Jul 08, 2012 - "Jalangi" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : India Mar 01, 2012 - "Oslo" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Norway (Hammer) May 09, 2013 - "Oshika" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Namibia Jun 15, 2013 - "Yuncheng-Shanxi" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : China Sep 23, 2013 - "Vicencia" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Brazil May 09, 2013 - "Oshika" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Namibia Jun 15, 2013 - "Yuncheng-Shanxi" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : China Sep 23, 2013 - "Vicencia" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Brazil Jan 15, 2013 - "Planeta Rica" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Colombia Feb 17, 2014 - "Santa Fe" (unofficial) (unknown type) : Argentina Feb 28, 2014 - "Rift Valley" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : Kenya (Hammer) Mar 09, 2014 - "Jinju" (unofficial) (ordinary chondrite?) : South Korea Best regards, MikeG -- ------------------------------------------------------------- Web - http://www.galactic-stone.com Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/galacticstone Twitter - http://twitter.com/galacticstone Pinterest - http://pinterest.com/galacticstone ------------------------------------------------------------- On 6/4/14, Matson, Rob D. <ROBERT.D.MATSON at leidos.com> wrote: > Hi Mike, > > Just to confuse things further, I was mixing up the 18 March St. Thomas > meteor with the more recent (4 May) Codrington, Ontario meteor.
