Life mimics fiction...

"Raiders of the Lost Meteorite", Working Script page 199.

Fade in.
Scene 49, Backroom government building.
Government Official A: "Gentlemen, we trust the compensation was
adequate."
Meteorite Hunter A: "No, it certainly was not!"
Meteorite Hunter B: "Where's the Stone? Where's the g** d*** stone! It
has incredible scientific value and must be studied properly."
Government Official B: "We have top men working on it."
Meteorite Hunter A: "What men?!"
Government Official B: "TOP men, Dr., TOP men..."
Fade out.

Fade in.
Scene 50, Dimly lit government warehouse in the middle of nowhere...
Several non-descript men in overalls are seen wheeling the giant iron
meteorite on a squeaky rail cart amoungst rows and rows of unmarked
crates, statues, and assorted rocks covered in layers of dust.
Fade to black...

Cue theme music and credits.

Best,

Daniel

Sounds like the Chinese version of the U.S. Old Woman find.? Government
takes possession of it because they can and then it is all over for the
finders.? Offer them a tiny reward for a major find, let them decline
and then give them nothing but grief.? In other words, make up the laws
as you go without the citizens input.

History has a way of repeating itself.

I wonder what kind of reward the Smithsonian will offer for the first
American Lunar find when they take possession of it, perhaps $100.00, a
cup of coffee and a sausage?

Happy and Productive Hunting,

Adam

Dear list members,

here is another article on the issue:

Ownership of meteorite remains controversial

I wonder how this story will turn out....
