We can thank the recent popularization of meteorite collecting/hunting in the media for making all of us who pursue a wholesome avocation look like poachers! Now the BLM has the tools necessary to wipe out field gathering all together. Once tighter rules are in place, it is much easier to change them to state "No meteorite collecting whatsoever."
