Dated at 2.86 billion years, it is one of the youngest lunar rocks known, and is paired with NWA 2977 and the olivine clasts in NWA 773. It is composed of olivine, two pyroxenes, plagioclase partially converted to maskelynite, and minor amounts of armalcolite, a mineral first identified in lunar basalts, and named for the Apollo 11 astronauts. It is also traversed by an intricate network of impact-generated black glassy veins. Truly a stunning sample. http://www.lpi.usra.edu/meteor/metbull.php?sea=6950 The thin glassy shock veins are what really set this one apart from most other lunars especially against the light colored matrix. This was cut on a wire saw that created some very thin slice with maximum surface area. Most are around 1.6 mm thick. Slices are competitively priced at $800/g with pieces less than 1 gram at $900/g. Email me if you have any questions. 0.25 g end cut $225 0.50 g end cut $450 0.58 g end cut $522 1.61 g slice $1288 1.93 g slice $1544 2.45 g slice $1960 3.38 g slice $2704 Check out the photos in this album; https://picasaweb.google.com/109538410126952617536/October102012?authkey=Gv1sRgCLOn1fash4yI6gE Mike Mike Jensen Meteorites 16730 E Ada PL Aurora, CO 80017-3137 USA 303-337-4361 IMCA 4264 website: www.jensenmeteorites.com Received on Wed 10 Oct 2012 11:25:20 PM PDT |
